Chips prepared using raw Banana and fried in Coconut Oil. If you do not like the taste of Coconut Oil, you can use any other refined Oil. Banana Chips is very popular in Kerala (South India). This also served during Onam Sadya.
Cuisine: Kerala
Time Required: 30 Minutes
Ingredients:
5-6 Nendrabale/Kerala Raw Bananas
Coconut Oil for Deep Frying
4 tsp Turmeric Powder
4 tsp Salt
Salt, Pepper, and Chili Powder for sprinkling after the chips are done
Method:
Peel the Bananas.
Cut into thin roundels.
Mix cold water with Turmeric Powder and Salt.
Immerse the Banana slices in this water for 10 minutes.
Sieve the Banana slices.
Heat Oil in a kadai/frying pan and deep fry the slices until crisp.
Remove on kitchen towel.
Sprinkle salt and pepper or chili powder.
Store in airtight containers.
Hint: Mix ½ tsp water with ¼ tsp Salt and add this paste to the Oil while deep-frying to make the slices crispier. Be careful while doing this, because the Oil might start to pop so close the kadai with a lid for few seconds immediately.
