During festivals and pooja, friends and family are given the Arishina and Kumkuma (Haldi and Kumkum) and the prasada (blessed food) like Kosambari, Gugri, Sathyanarayana Prasada (sooji halwa) are given in cups made from the Palash tree leaves (a.k.a. Dhak, Bastard Teak, or Parrot Tree).
Materials required:
Palash leaves – Will need 6 medium to large leaves for 3 cups
Coconut frond sticks
Method:
Cut the sticks to half inch size. Place two leaves on top of each other with the stem in the opposite direction.
Fold the either side of the stem to form a cup.
Fasten with the stick.
Repeat on the other side too.
You will have four folds holding them with four sticks.
Now, the cups are ready to serve Payasam or Fruit salad / custard or Saaru/Rasam or just fruits.
