Udaka Shanti Pooja is performed before major events like marriage, upanayana, gruha pravesha, and so on. This pooja is performed for peace and harmony in the house.
First, Ganesha is worshiped. Then, a Kalasha is filled with water, that is symbolic of the Ganga water and kept over a rangoli. Lord Varuna / the god of water and the other gods and goddesses are invited into the Kalasha. 5 priests chant the Yajurveda. A total of 1441 lines from Yajurveda are chanted and takes approximately 3 hours to complete.
People are invited home and given mangala drowya.
