I collected this orchid from, Srinagar, Uttaranchal and my main concern was to transport it safely back home. I feared the worst in Delhi as it was peak summer and we were staying there for a week before heading back to Bengaluru. Yippee! The plant survived to bloom in the next spring.
Ascocentrum is miniature Vanda-like plant found in the wild in the Himalayan foothills, Sikkim, Assam and Nepal at altitudes up to 1000 meters above sea level. The leaves are dark green with dark purple pinkish shades over them and are 10 cm long. The leaves are thick and tough looking arranged over one another.
The flowers bloom on spikes and are 1 to 1½ cm long and vivid orchid pink in color with a white lip. They bloom during spring.
Aerides prefers bright light, warm temperature, humid conditions and frequent watering. Do not water during winter.
Hi Shantha. This is an Aerides sp., possibly Aerides multiflora.
Thanks once again, I wish I knew you earlier to identify this Orchid. I have struggled to identify this and the nearest photo that matched was that of the title 🙂
I have changed the title.
Regards,
Shantha
The main reason I wanted to correct this was that a lot of people are using your site for reference ( that’s a good sign for your efforts).
You are most welcome to correct me anytime Prejith. I have one unidentifiable orchid flower pictures with me, can I send it across to you for identification?
Definitely. I will try my best to identify it.
Thank you Prejith.
