They look amazing!! Interestingly, I visited an Orchid festival yesterday and was delighted at the variety present. Bought a beautiful plant for the home too!! Hope it will be OK in the chill of winter here:)
hi Shantha, very glad to see blooms of Dendrobium Aqueum, i live in bangalore, i am extremely curious about orchids ,but i am a beginner, i will be visiting coorg frequently, recently i collected Dendrobium Aqueum & bulbophylum when i visited somvarpet, at pushpagiri hills, while returning to bangalore i got those repotted, but i am not satisfied with the potting media, he potted in coco bits which is like a powder. i doubt if the roots decay in this media, can u plz suggest me potting media & growing tips for these wild orchids. it would be very greatful.… Read more »
Shashi, good to see a lot of people are interested in species these days. The dendrobiums of the type you are talking of that include aqueum, aphyllum , heterocarpum and a host of others, form the section Eugenanthe. They have a very peculiar habit in that they drop their leaves before they bloom. It is better to have them hanging on a piece of teakwood or moss rod rather than pushing them into a pot. When they start dropping their leaves, watering and fertilizing has to be reduced with just enough watering to keep the canes from shriveling. More watering… Read more »
Thanks Prejith. I have Cymbidium Dyanum plants and this had bloomed 15 years back. I have continued to take care of them and have tried every possible potting material. But they have not bloomed again 🙁
I even got manure specially meant for Orchids from USA and used them, but no results. Please help.
