Bread Uppittu is prepared using Bread, Onion, and other spices used to make Rawa (Semolina) Uppittu. This is faster and offers a variety in Uppittu also known as Upma.
Time Required: 25 Minutes
Serves: 2
Ingredients:
10 Bread slices
1 Onion
1/2 Cup Chopped Coriander
2 – 6 Green Chilies
Juice of half Lemon
Few Curry leaves
1tbsp Oil
1tsp Bengal Gram
1tsp Urad Dal/Split Black Gram
½ tsp Mustard Seeds
½ tsp Turmeric Powder
Salt to taste
Method:
Cut Bread slices into small squares and keep aside. Chop Onion and Green Chilies finely. Heat Oil; add Bengal Gram, Urad Dal and Mustard Seeds. When the Mustard Seeds starts to splutter add Curry leaves, Turmeric powder, Green Chilies and Onions and stir until Onions turn translucent.
Now, add Salt, Lemon Juice and the Bread pieces and mix well and toss using a spatula for 3 minutes.
Remove and serve hot.
This is one of my favorite dishes. My mom toasted the bread cubes in 1 tsp. of oil till it was crispy for a minute or two. Now living in the USA I toast it in the oven for 5 minutes on 300. and add a box of salad croûton with this. Give a great taste. thanks for sharing/
