Menthedittu is a flavored powder prepared using a mixture of roasted lentils. A spoon of this powder is mixed with hot rice and ghee and eaten as a starter and the aroma and taste is mouthwatering. This is very popular in North Karnataka and Maharashtra.
Time Required: 30 Minutes
Ingredients:
4 Cups Kadalebele / Channa dal / Bengal Gram
1 Cup Uddinabele / Urad Dal / Black Gram Split
1 Cups Hesarubele / Moong dal / Split Green Gram
8 tbsp Akki / Raw Rice
2 inches Arishanada Beru / Turmeric Root
1 Cup Jeerige / Jeera / Cumin Seeds
4 tsp Mustard Seeds
1 tsp Ingu / Hing / Asafoetida
1 tsp Menthya / Methi / Fenugreek Seeds (Optional)
Method:
Dry-roast Bengal Gram or Green Gram along with Turmeric root.
Dry-roast the other ingredients separately.
Remove the roasted ingredients on a cloth towel and let it cool. Fry Hing in 1/4 tsp Ghee. Break the Turmeric root into small pieces. Grind everything together to a fine powder.
Sieve and store this powder in airtight dry containers. This can be stored for more than 6 months.
Serve a spoon of this powder with hot Rice, Ghee (Clarified Butter), Salt and Pickle. Mix everything together and relish it when hot.
This Powder can be used to prepare chutneys, sauce and used as the main ingredient in preparing a dish using avalakki (flattened rice).

Namasthe,
Whether Menthyada Hittu requires Menthya. Above list does not included menthya. If, so please specify the quantity of Menthya to be added and shoudl also be roasted ?
Regards,
Meera
Namaskara Meera, It is very surprising that Menthyada Hittu does not really require Menthya/Methi/Fenugreek seeds. But, some people add 1tbsp of Menthya for the above measurement, and yes..it has to be roasted before grinding it together with other ingredients.

Hi Rajeswari,
I am glad you like the content in my website. Thanks for visiting and leaving this lovely note.
For a ten months kid, idli, soft rice, dal water, mashed cooked vegetable are all great for the health. Please do consult the paediatrician too…
