Bangalori Dal is prepared using Pigeon Pea and Red Lentils. It is a tasty and healthy dish.

Ingredients:
½ cup Tuvar Dal / Pigeon Pea / Red Gram Split
½ cup Masoor Dal / Split Red Lentil
2 medium Tomatoes, Chopped
2 large Onions, Chopped
Few sprigs Fresh coriander, Chopped
4 to 5 Green Chilies, Slit
¼ Fresh grated Coconut
1 tsp Red Chili Powder
½ tsp dry Coriander Powder
¼ tsp Turmeric Powder
½ tsp Fenugreek – Cumin powder (Roast Fenugreek and Cumin and grind to a powder)
1 Lemon sized Tamarind, Soaked in water and pulp extracted
Few Curry leaves
3 Garlic pods, Chopped
3 Red Chilies
½ tsp Mustard Seeds
¼ tsp Asafoetida
Method:
In a cooker add Tomatoes, Onions, Coriander, Green chilies, Coconut, Red Chili Powder, Coriander Powder, Turmeric, Fenugreek – Cumin powder, Tuvar Dal, and Masoor Dal. Add enough water to cook and cook until done.
Mash the pressure cooked ingredients and add Tamarind pulp.
Heat Oil and add Curry leaves, Garlic, Red Chilies, Mustard Seeds, Asafoetida, and Onions. Saute for a minute. Add this over the Cooked Dal and add Salt. Mix well and remove to a serving dish.
Serve hot with your choice of Indian Bread.
