½ Cup fresh Coconut
1 Lemon sized Tamarind soaked in water
1tbsp Jaggery/Molasses

¼ tsp Turmeric Powder
A pinch of Asafoetida
Few Curry Leaves

Method:
Cook Tur Dal in the cooker. Remove this to a thick-bottomed vessel. Extract Tamarind pulp and add this to the dal. Grind Huli Pudi and Coconut to a paste and add this to the dal. Add Salt and Asafoetida and let it cook for 5 minutes. If it is too thick add more water and cook.
Heat Oil and add Mustard Seeds and when they splutter add Asafoetida, Turmeric Powder, Curry Leaves and Red Chilies. Add this to the Huli and mix well and remove to a serving dish.
Put all the Nuchchina Unde into the Huli and mix well and serve with plain Rice.

Shantha,
Is this same as sandige hittina saaru? Let me know. I don’t remember if it is ambode dipped in gravy for sandige hittina saaru.
Thanks,
Lalitha
You are welcome Satya.
Lalitha – I am not sure about Sandige Huli, maybe it is ambode in huli. Another variation is Ambode in Gojju known as Gojjambode. Please check the following link for the same-

Hi Shantha,
Nice Recipe…. Yesterday in a cook show watched a similar dish, but the difference was instead of Nucchinunde added here, they added a “Battalu Kadubu”-> combination of Jolada Hittu+kadale Hittu+1 spoon Refined Oil+Salt+ Kneaded them and made in the shape of small, small battalu and immersed and boiled them in Huli… It is a north karnataka recipe called battalu kadubu it seems… May be it is a variation of this one..
Regards,
Nagashree.
