Yay! Yay! It is Mango season again. There are so many dishes that you can churn out using Mangoes, and one such dish is the ubiquitous Gojju. Kannadigas love Gojju as a side dish.
Time Required: 15 Minutes
Ingredients:
1 Raw Mavinakayi / Mango, Peel and dice
2 tbsp Gojjina pudi (Gojju masala powder)
½ Cup Fresh Coconut, Grated
2 Green Chilies, Slit
2 tsp Oil
½ tsp Mustard Seeds
A pinch of Turmeric Powder
Few Curry leaves
½ Cup Jaggery
Salt to taste
Method:
Grind Coconut and Gojjina pudi to a paste. Add water if needed. Heat Oil in a kadai/pan and add Mustard Seeds and when they start to splutter, add Turmeric powder and Curry leaves. Add Mango pieces and sauté for a minute.
Add Masala paste, Salt and Jaggery and mix well.
If the consistency is too thick, add half-cup water. Let it cook for 5 minutes. Remove to a serving bowl.
Serve hot with plain Rice, Huggi (Pongal), Ambode, or Chapathi.
looks sooo yum… wanna try it out soon… 🙂
Hi,
Does this dish taste sweet ?. If yes, I had tasted this when I visited restaurant named ‘Southys’ at Indira Nagar last year.
Vishram, this dish tastes sweet, sour and spicy and sometimes if more jaggery is added then it tastes too sweet. Gojju can be prepared with Capsicum, Okra, Pineapple, Lemon etc.
Hi,
Thanks. Will ask wife to prepare this dish. Is it Karnatak or AP dish ?.
While browsing through your site I came across many photos of tourist attraction in Karnataka. Looks like ‘K’ is lush green state and I tempt to visit all these places.
In Karnataka this dish is known as Gojju but variations of this is cooked in Andhra as well as in Kerala. I hope the dish turns out well.
Yes Vishram, Karnataka is a beautiful state with many interesting places, do visit and let me know your experience.
Regards,
Shantha
