Uddina Vada or Bonda are fritters prepared using Split Black Gram and spices. You can shape them like a doughnut too. Though the doughnut shaped fritter is served in all the restaurants teamed with Idli, at homes it is prepared on inauspicious days.
Time Required: 20 Minutes + Soaking time
Ingredients:
1 Cup Urad Dal/Split Black Gram
5 Pepper Corns, Crushed (optional)
Few Green chilies, chopped
Few Curry leaves, chopped
Few Coriander leaves, chopped
Oil for deep frying
Salt to taste
Method:
Soak Urad Dal for 30 minutes. Grind it to a thick paste. Add Salt and Pepper and mix well. Add the other ingredients and mix.
Heat Oil in a frying pan. Take a spoonful of batter in the hand and make a hole in it using the thumb. Deep fry until golden brown.
Serve with Coconut Chutney and Sambar.
